Since I mention various laws and interpretations on this website, I just want to make it clear that I am not a lawyer.  In fact, other than a couple of business law courses in college, I have no Italian or American legal training.  I am also not an accountant or tax professional.  I have gone through the process to claim Italian dual citizenship and have talked to many others who have gone through or are going through the process.  I have spent many hours researching this topic and talking to others and I created www.italiancitizenshipforamericans.com to share a little of what I have learned in the hopes of saving you time.

While many people have gone through the process of claiming their Italian dual citizenship on their own without the help of a lawyer, there are circumstances where it makes more sense to hire a lawyer for help in navigating this process or if you are running into difficulties or have concerns.  I try to provide information to help as many people as I can but each situation is different and the information I provide may not fit your particular circumstance.  Also, each Italian consulate is a little different in what they require.  Before you spend time and money on this process, please make sure you are clear in what your Italian consulate requires.

If you find there is information that is unclear or not accurate, I would appreciate it if you contact me so I can update it.

There is a lot of information on the Internet about this topic, some of it misleading and some of it plain wrong.  While I try to keep the information on this website accurate and up-to-date, I make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the completeness, accuracy, reliability, suitability or availability with respect to the website or the information, products, services, or related graphics contained on the website for any purpose. Any reliance you place on such information is therefore strictly at your own risk.

The bottom line is, taking legal or tax advice from an unknown person via the internet is a bad idea.  Please do your own research and hire a lawyer or tax accountant if appropriate.
